EMT ACADEMY OFFERS EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN COURSES

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

WITH CLASSES BEGINNING IN JANUARY, APRIL AND AUGUST

 

17 Week Program

 

Classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday

 

There are two available options:

 

  • Day Session is held from 8 AM to Noon
  • Evening Session is held from 6 PM to 10 PM
  • All classes will also meet on one Saturday per month from 8 AM to 5 PM

The EMT course consists of multiple components through which every student shall build the knowledge and skills to care for ill and injured patients in the emergency medical services field.

  • Clinical/Field Internship (approximately 32 hours):
    • Observation in an emergency department (16 hours)
    • Observation in a skilled nursing facility (8 hours)
    • Ambulance ride-along shift (minimum 8 hours)
  • Classroom (approximately 200 hours):
    • Student presentations
    • Classroom discussion
    • Instructor led lectures
    • Labs and skill drills to reinforce the curriculum
    • Real life simulation and scenario based training
    • Practical skills stations in preparation for the certification exam
    • Regular quizzes and in-class Mid-Term and Final Examination
  • Online Learning and At Home Preparation
    • Textbook reading and/or listen to the audio book
    • Homework (both on and offline assignments)
    • Unit Exams

(These hours are scheduled to observe a preceptor in addition to classroom hours and may include day, evening and weekend shifts as determined by our affiliate facilities scheduling needs.)

COURSE COST

EMT Academy’s EMT course tuition is $1000.00, which includes the base tuition for our classroom component, textbook, online learning management system for access to your homework and testing, CPR certification, EMT Academy uniform shirts, student ID badge, background check, liability insurance, and scheduling for clinical and field internships, as well as the practical examination if taken with your class at the completion of the course.

Students who are accepted into the course, after an admission interview, must pay an initial deposit of $200 to hold their seat in the course. A second deposit of $200 will be due at orientation approximately 3 weeks prior to the course start date. The remaining balance must be paid in full on the first date of class, unless the student has set up a payment plan with EMT Academy.

EMT Academy does not offer financial aid, however we offer payment plans to qualified individuals. Payment options will be discussed during your admission interview.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

This course has been developed for all individuals desiring to perform emergency medical care as an EMT. No prior experience or training is required of the course applicant. In order to be eligible for the state EMT certification examination the applicant must:

  • be 18 years of age
  • be able to read, understand and communicate in English
  • be free from addiction to alcohol or any drug

be free from any physical or mental defect or disease which might impair his/her ability to provide emergency care within the scope of the EMTs training and responsibilities, or which might jeopardize the health of another member of the class.

The student must also successfully complete the Basic EMT course including 100% attendance.

EMT Academy’s EMT course is designed to prepare our students for the psychomotor skills (practical) evaluation administered by the Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS), as well as the cognitive (written) examination administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Once a candidate has successfully completed our course and passed each of the aforementioned tests they can then apply to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for their EMT certification by filling out an application and paying the required fee.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Computer Requirements: EMT Academy recommends that this course be taken using a conventional laptop or desktop computer. iPads and tablets and phones are compatible with some of the online components of the course, but do have limitations and you will not be able to complete all the aspects of the online course work without the use of a computer.

Internet Access: Access codes to our online learning management system will be distributed to students at the course orientation. Reliable internet access is required while attending our course, as this will allow you easily access the course homework, testing, grades, etc.

Dress Code: EMT Academy will provide uniform shirts required for the course and clinical rotations. Students are required to be in uniform while in class, during skills sessions, and during the clinical phase.  Further details of our dress code will be discussed at the course orientation.

Medical Supplies: Each student will need to purchase a vital signs kit, including a blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, and a penlight.  These kits will be available for purchase at course orientation.  You must also have a watch with the capability of recording seconds for vital signs labs.

Background Checks: EMT Academy requires all students to pass a CORI check.

COURSE PREPARATION

The EMT course is a fast-paced and demanding academic challenge. It requires you to do additional studying outside of the classroom while in the course (these hours vary from student to student).

EMT Academy expects our students to commit to being successful by studying, participating in class discussions, and being prepared for class on a daily basis. In return, you can expect that our faculty will accommodate your needs as a student and that we will develop quality educational programs, study tips, and classroom presentations to assist you in becoming successful in our course.

POST COURSE CERTIFICATION

Once you have successfully completed the EMT course at EMT Academy, you will be guided through the process of taking your practical and written certification examinations through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
